How did Zappa come into your life?
When I first lived alone, I really felt the absence of a pet. My mom also has a completely white cat named Ted. So I went to find my own little Ted. A few weeks later, I found Zappa and I fell in love immediately.
Why did you decide to create an Instagram account for Zappa?
When Zappa was a kitten, I was so happy with her and I couldn't stop taking pictures of her. Occasionally (probably always), I post pictures of her on my personal social media accounts and after a while some people start complaining about the only thing they see is Zappa, because So I decided to create an Instagram account with an image I made with Zappa.
How would you describe Zappa's personality?
She is super curious, which is probably the main reason why she is always around us. She is also very sociable, she loves to greet everyone who comes to our house and when we talk to her she loves to talk back.
When did you decide to start dressing Zappa?
Quite early actually. I'm really into clothes and fashion myself and I think it's cute to find tiny clothes that fit Zappa. So Zappa slowly got used to it. Then I decided that Zappa could become the face of pet fashion/streetwear and started incorporating small pieces of fashion.
How do you get Zappa comfortable in clothes?
We started dressing Zappa when she was very young and she got used to it. We wouldn't do it if she didn't like it.
Where do you find Zappa's couture looks?
Almost all of her looks are custom-made. It started with some black and white hoodies that I ordered for Zappa because I thought it would look cute on her. I made my own hoodie with the Supreme box logo using real Supreme tags from an old sweater. Sometimes I also stumble across a great looking little item on Zappa. But I mostly like to do custom items. It's a challenge to get as close to the "human" version as possible.
How do you get her to pose for a photo?
It's actually a funny question because a lot of times we don't have to do anything for it. She is a very natural model! But she also has some days that don't really like it and then we try to distract her with toys and junk food.
When did Zappa become famous on Instagram?
There was actually one post in particular that made a huge difference. Me and my boyfriend were washing dishes, and Zappa was always somewhere around us in the house. I just put down a large glass bowl and Zappa then decided she could sleep in the bowl. Then I created this picture:
And that photo went viral in the pet community after I posted it. The funny thing is that the picture is still being reposted very regularly.
What reaction do you get from her followers?
We get a lot of different reactions but they are always positive. Of course a lot of people think that she looks very cute and beautiful. Just like us. Since the feature on Hypebae, we've also noticed an increase in streetwear interest in petite outfits. But we also have some truly heartbreaking reactions from people who lost a white cat. They follow Zappa because it gives them comfort. This is a great honor for us and brings us so much joy!
What do people most want to know about Zappa?
We always get asked what breed she is! And that always makes us laugh because she's just a European maiden, she's not a special breed but we have to admit she's a very handsome little girl.
What do you like most about Zappa?
We like that Zappa is very close to us. No matter what we do, Zappa is always near us. And she was always so happy to see us when we got home from work! When we put the key in the door you could hear her meow very loudly in the living room which was lovely.
